I found Mash Stories by perusing the web for short-fiction writing contests. It caught my eye for several reasons: the wonderful aesthetic of the site, the excellent writing, and the Podcasts. Beyond that, I got the feeling that Mash is a real community and that feeling was confirmed by the warm messages I received from the team when I started.
Mash loves enthusiasm, ambition and optimism, which I believe is a big part of the reason why they brought me on board as a judge as well as Mash Club Coordinator.
Since I became a judge, I’ve been humbled and amazed by the outstanding level of skill and creativity that our Mashers possess. I love visualizing the stories and imagining the personality of the writer based on their voices. Often, I am sad to see the stories end.
As Mash Club Coordinator, I am beyond excited to interact with Mashers and to help them in any way possible. And I’d like to tell you how you could use Mash to improve your craft, which I think is important for any writer. If you’re a member of the Mash Club, you can make use of the feedback option. It’s important to do so because:
Objective, professional feedback is very, very hard to come by and it would be a tragic waste to not learn from it.
In the end, we are all here for a place to read excellent fiction and to better our craft. Luckily for us, that is exactly what Mash Stories is all about.
